Community within a Community "Melting pot of creativity".
The design entailed converting the historic Pabst Brewing Co. and Pendergast buildings in the Crossroads Arts District to a boutique hotel making it a destination for both travelers and locals alike. Inspired by the local Arts District and buildings themselves, the design utilizes creative art instants to accent and shape the spaces. These moments become part of the interior architecture’s skin accentuating the design while preserving and celebrating the past.
As a team leader with Simeone Deary Design Group, Shilpa oversaw execution of the interior team’s design and worked closely with the local artists until the project’s completion. The design for this adaptive reuse building involved the layering of curated artistic moments while providing a personalized and residential vibe throughout. Shilpa supplied ownership a strong understanding of fabrication when coordinating with the artists. Improving project delivery, strategies were implemented to minimize costs and meet construction deadlines.
An atrium established within the Pabst Brewing Co. allows for circulation fulfilling the inviting program of a central living zone. A stunning sawtooth skylight bathes the central area with natural light while custom disc shaped light fixtures parade along the space adding light throughout. The integration of the fixtures within the architecture enhances and provide a timeless light installation within the area.
Formulating a community within a community, the team developed a lifestyle development program consisting of the hotel, food and beverage, event spaces and artist-in-residence program with rotational gallery, it is a melting pot of creativity. Repurposing these two existing buildings into a hotel provided the neighborhood with an ability to preserve and celebrate its history. Through thoughtful planning and studying of the existing interior, moments were found to showcase the building’s intrinsic beauty and character. Working with this type of property is unique and only something this special exudes this appeal.
